The compton-raised music mogul who was recently unveilled as 2012's highest grossing artist (earning a reported $110 million), was invited to have a chat at Britain's official residence; no. 10 Downing Street.
What David Cameron wanted to speak to him about, I don't know. Maybe he wanted to press him for a release date for Detox, maybe DC wanted a quick 16 on a new Dre song, whatever it was... I'm sure it was awkward as fuck.
I mean, there's only so much Cameron could have Wikipedia'd and found out about Dre isn't there..

The Game Disses Shyne W/ Freestyle In The Snow
Entitled 'Cough up a Lung', The Game escalates his conflict with ex-convict Shyne Po through this freestyle shot in New York. The Compton rapper is pushing all the right buttons prior to his 'Jesus Piece' release and this attention is intelligently drawn.

Skepta switches up the levels with 'Castles' [@Skepta] #UnderdogPsychosis
The video, the concept, the content, the beat - everything is just evidence for why Skepta is so far apart from the rest of the UK's MC's. His level of understanding and abiltiy to relay that uniquely is just refreshing for someone like me to hear. This kind of material you're about to hear is the kind of pure artistic quality you'd see only in America...

Wretch 32 - Pop?

Young Jeezy and Rick Ross in backstage altercation and shots are fired
"While 50 Cent and Fat Joe are making peace at the BET Hip Hop Awards, Rick Ross and Young Jeezy continued their spat in a parking lot, where it is believed the rappers got into a shoving match backstage, shots were fired in the parking lot and a man was arrested.
No confirmed reports on whether the rappers were in the parking lot when the shots were fired but the awards have been halted because of the incident.
Funkmaster Flex and JasFly tweeted the incident."

The Manor Live @ The Beckenham
The Manor Live @ The Beckenham
A stone’s throw away from The Manor Way, Beckenham boys; Danny Graft, Johnny Dutch and Scotty Stacks showed their hometown how to host a mixtape launch party, the Manor way. This trendy trio of no-nonsense, never-mind-the-b***ocks lads arrived on the scene greeted and charmed by a conveyor belt of Joey Essex-esque gentlemen and scantily but smartly clad fun-loving ladies. The room was rammed with punters but there was never any suggestion that the artists were in any way separate or superior from their supporters. It’s strange to even describe them as supporters as it appeared to me to be much more than that, it was like watching a huge family celebrate a birthday or a world cup winning team parading through its home town. There was a tremendous fragrance of pride in the air and it was refreshing to see so many people turn up to an independently organised event for a band whose exposure is still embryonic.
This was a group of musicians performing well in their comfort zone. They had the venue in the palm of their hands, they could do no wrong and it was glaringly obvious that the night was going to be a triumph. The drinks continued to flow, and slowly one by one The Manor managed to part themselves from their beverages and assembled behind the microphones, fighting through a frenzy of pats on the back, handshakes and kisses (from the females, I hasten to add). The cockney crew cruised through their catalogue, raising the decibels, excitement and sweat in the venue with every passing minute. Dropping big crowd favourites like ‘Shut It Down’ and ‘Leave It Alone’ culminated in absolute mayhem with people jumping and jiving on VIP sofas and chairs while security did their best to resist joining in. This was mayhem but in a good way, the energy was absolutely crazy and the night could easily have continued for hours. This is a group of down-to-earth geezers playing in their local boozer, but it should not for one second be forgotten that these a truly talented musicians. They collect catchy choruses and verses together, blended with an array of impeccable production to make actual songs, not freestyles, not remixes – original songs.
It’s much more than a local band doing a local gig, what makes The Manor unique is their individual stories, their banter on and off the mic, and the fact that the majority of Britain’s urban and suburban population can relate to their content. It’s very easy for newcomers to jump on board the Manor bandwagon or ‘lagboat’ as they’d say; learn the lingo, listen to the vibes and lose yourself.
If ‘Welcome to the Manor’ was a myth of a mixtape then it’s sequel literally was, Free Mixtapes Don’t Pay The Rent failed to make an appearance on the internet on the anticipated release date due to technical issues but it did eventually come out a few days later!

K KOKE - ONLY ONE [OFFICIAL VIDEO] [@KOKEUSG]
This is perhaps a little snippet of what's to come from the I Ain't Perfect LP. I love it, his verses are hard, the hook is reminiscent of a proper artist and not just any underground rapper. This is progress, this is necessary, only the small-minded people will be reluctant to evolve with Koke.

Yung Quincy - My Music
Yung Quincy Releases Debut Mixtape – ‘My Music’
The London-born turntable titan has turned the tables and
got behind the microphone to record his debut mixtape entitled ‘My Music’. Quincy
has been writing music from the age of 9, he joined the Nu Rap Krew (which
included rap star Giggs) at just 10 years old, through his adult life he has stormed
through the club scene and has earned the respect of artists worldwide. He’s
brought a few of them together to collaborate on this project.
Quincy, who has been endorsed by airwaves heavyweight Tim
Westwood, recruits features from the likes of Joe Grind, Giggs, DVS, Ashley Walters, JME, Vybz Kartel on this
gift of a CD.
“A lot of the youngers in the UK are not really paying respect to the dancehall music we have, they might listen to Mavado and those guys but people like Gappy Ranks and Stylo G etc are not getting the love they deserve, so I thought let me start making dance hall music with a UK vibe.”
The names are proof of Yung Quincy’s certified status and
confirm his credentials, but enough of the background check; is it any good?
Find out for yourself; listen to it and download it for free

Kano Teams Up With Mercedes Benz
UK grime/ hip hop legend Kano has become the front of the new campaign by Mercedes Benz. I don't think I've been this proud of a UK rapper for a while.
Kano has always been one of those artists who I wished would make it to the big money, because in my eyes he is very underrated and a lot of his work went unappreciated. People often tag the 'he was ahead of his time' label to him (I think Wiley often says this) but it's not just that, he is and was a true lyricist who deserved the treasures.
BUT Kane being the intelligent bloke he is has realised there's money to be made elsewhere, I point to exhibit A - Top Boy. Top Boy was a huge success and almost put Kano on the filming map, now there's this Mercedes ad campaign. This is huge. What made me smile even more was that an American magazine 'Complex' recognised this and it is via them that I learnt the news!

Drake Came Correct On 'Enough Said' Feat. Aaliyah
There was a little bit of discussion prior to this song being released about whether it was right for Drake to jump on an Aaliyah joint. Timbaland threw his opinion in saying that it would have to be voiced by himself plus a few others, anything else would not be right.
I thought i'd wait till the actual joint came out to conclude, having listened to it I do think Drake came correct. What I mean is that he did not dominate the track, he was sensible and he paid respect to the late singer giving her plenty of room in fact a huge proportion of the song to her vocals. Drake came in with his verse, there was a lack of cheese and he definitely played this well, well done Drake - you were tredding on thin ice with this record but I think you made it without slipping!

Wiley Reaches The Mountain Top with 'Heatwave'
Woke up this morning and opened up my Twitter timeline to find tweets about Wiley reaching number 1 - I'm happy.
It was perhaps inevitable, the great job that Rymez did on production and the complimenting vocals of Ms. D culminate in this summer CLASSIC which will be remembered and enjoyed for decades. This is timeless music.
What Wiley brings to this tune is a balance. His carefree lyrical content and his unnerving ability to just have fun on a track is evident and means the listener can enjoy him bouncing off the beat before giving way to the very catchy chorus.
Then I heard the news that it had in fact sold 114K copies in the first week!?!?!
" 'UNDRED AND FOUR'EEN FAASUND COPIES?!?! "
Couldn't quite believe it, I was overcome with pride - I'm very happy.
The compliments have been flooding in on Twitter from all areas of the music universe ( will we see one from Dizzee? :P) and rightfully so, the Grime godfather has had the work ethic of a mexican mule in a metal manufacturing mine. The freestyles, the videos, the tweets, the gigs, the feuds, the lord of the mics, the dodgy tracksuits, the not turning up, the eskimo dances, the - EVERYTHING... and now it all comes to this -
Well done Richard.

Is 'Fire in the Booth' Forever Doomed...?
'Fire in the Booth' is one of the more recent platforms for budding artists to express themselves to a wider audience. Hosted by Charlie Sloth, when it first arrived it was a great little rival to the F64 and other similar spotlit stages for unknown artists.
HOWEVER, is it fair to say it peaked too early?
What I'm talking about is K Koke's Fire in The Booth which roared through the internet causing views and likes to accumulate into a viral euphoria which ultimately lead to the Stonebridge kid's signature on a RocNation contract. So now, when a potential talent goes onto do a Fire in the Booth, is he/she not inevitably going to be charted and weighed up next to the famous K Koke FITB? The epicness of what he did is almost impossible to re-create; it's very difficult to get humans (particularly those of the hip hop faith) to give up what they fell in love with first in exchange for something new and equally qualified in skill and excitement.
We get very attached and eccentrically loyal to the thing that wowed us the first time that we very rarely say yep this new one's better or just as good. It's the same reason why people will never let 50 cent be as great as he was because they won't give up the feeling of when he first came out with Get Rich or Die Tryin'.
So, is the Fire in the Booth concept a useless one for up and coming rappers?
Lend me your thoughts @rikybains1

Introducing... Inertia
Inertia is hailing out of Kansas, USA. What's so special about him? Why should you even give your precious time (which you would have wasted on Facebook anyway) to him?
Because he's a master on the microphone and a beast on the buttons. He's won awards for his producing back in 2011 (he produced track 13 on Soulja Boy's third album The DeAndre Way). Inertia is now turning his talents to rap, and fine-tuned they are. His debut release is 'Replay' sounds like it has come from a veteran in the game - it is cool, chilled and creative.
If you're a little bit bored of the status quo of rap right now then this is for you, if you're disillusioned by the dance music draped under the dogtag of hip hop then this is for you, if you NEED new good music in your life this is for you.
Don't take my word for it - listen to it and download it for FREE right here - http://www.facebook.com/InertiaNCC#!/InertiaNCC

iLL Manors - It's Definitely Not a 'Popcorn and Fanta Flex'...
Ill Manors is brought to you by Plan B, this is his directorial debut, it's bound to be a little bit naff....
right?
NO.
This is epic. This movie was screened last night in Leicester Square, the premiere played host to an array of stars who trod the red carpet being tugged and hugged by reporters and fans respectively. I managed to be part of the RWD team there and we were making our debut too! It was mine and @Kemp1988 's red carpet reporting debut and it was a game of patience more than anything. We've learnt a lot and I certainly feel like I can build on the next one (if the opportunity is given to me).
But anyway back to the film itself, it's graphic for sure but it's informative too. Not in the way of a documentary although Ben Drew does narrate over it, it's informative in an entertaining way. Entertaining in this context meaning rollercoaster-esque. There are some real emotional traumas and violent dramas which touch the audience in the eyes and heart. I'd especially recommend this to the cynics, or at least those who think sceptically about the characters that are being portrayed. What I noticed is that, after watching the film, you actually start noticing these characters in real life, it really is quite a weird realisation sensation when you go 'OMG maybe Great Britain isn't all it seems after all..'.
Riz Ahmed (Riz MC) plays one of the most interesting and perhaps most integral roles in the film, he's just as cold on the surface as the rest of the ill-mannered (see what I did there?) hustlers but Aran (his character) definitely has a moral conscience and dilemmas rushing through his mind. Ed Skrein (pronounced like fine) puts in a sterling performance to play the bad ruthless guy who unfortunatelly plummets to his death. There are too many characters and powerful performances and naming them all would take forever.
You must go watch this movie. Yes it's graphic, it's definitely not a 'popcorn and fanta' flex. But it's a work of art, it's political art, you appreciate this like you appreciate a Banksy. Plus there's some sick music in it, init.
P.S. Shout out to the guys at the Metro, everyone makes mistakes, yours happened to just be awful...

Introducing Context, my new obsession
Context is somebody I discovered just yesterday. I went to watch him tear up the sweatbox known as The Enterprise in Camden. He impressed me so much I decided to check out his stuff properly the following day and I am now addicted. His sound is so refreshing, I can't help but love it.
I managed to catch a brief interview with the man himself back stage, check that out along with a review of the gig on SBTV soon....

Police Lock Off The OMA's
According to @OfficialOMAs, police have shut down the 3rd Official Mixtape Awards event which was due to take place in Watford. The reasons given seem to point towards the notion that the majority of the artists in all of the categories have criminal records.
The venue was given the ultimatum of either shut down the event or lose your license; the inevitable was chosen.

It's been a year since I created this blog and I'm endlessly thankful for whatever pushed me to actually start it. Why? because ever since, my life has improved and changed dramatically.
I always knew my passion was music. I always knew I thought about music differently. I always knew I could provide a unique insight and analysis of music. Combining this with my ambitions of being a businessman/ entrepreneur, the same phrase kept re-occuring when I tried to describe what made me so different; The Bigger Picture.
I saw and see The Bigger Picture. This is why I wanted to write, this is how I write and this is what I write.
8000+ independent site views later, I'm a freelance writer for RWDmag. This is simply the beginning, I'm far from happy with settling for this title.
Watch this space and thanks to everybody who has supported what I do, I see you, don't worry.

Has Dizzee Done a Wiley?
Wiley is quite the philanthropist, samaritan and all-round helper, don'tcha know? However, perhaps this has been his achilles heel. Wiley, who co-founded the genre that we know and used to love as grime, spent a lot of his time and efforts in helping the scene grow rather than focus on himself.
Wiley was and now to a lesser extent still is hell-bent on bringing through talent, such is his charitable and down-to-earth nature.
Dizzee Rascal has arguably been doing the same. We all know he crossed the musical-M25 otherwise known as 'going commercial' and he has been rather successful at it, particularly in this country. There's no doubting his dollars but recently he's been focussed on other people's projects, namely his label-mates the Newham Generals. The Dirtee Stank mixtape came out months ago which was largely a showcase of D Double E and Footsie's talents.
We haven't heard much work solely from Rascal, fair enough he's been occupied.... but is he heading toward the same ill-fate of Wiley?
The next project Dizzee Rascal puts out could be pivotal. If you think grime/ hip hop fans are impatient or fickle, wait till you see the reaction of the commercial/mainstream missionaries if the East London 'boy in da corner' delivers something sub-standard after some time away.
They'll roast him like the aristocratic critics they are and there's no telling whether Dizzee will phoenix his way out of the tinderbox...

The Dirtee Stank mixtape came out months ago which was largely a showcase of D Double E and Footsie's talents.
Dizzee Rascal - the modern day... Dizzee Rascal |

JaJa Soze - Black Empire
This is the video that has been getting global attention and acclaim notably via the WorldStarHipHop site. JaJa does what he's best at, powerful, meaningful, heartfelt acapellas with real messages and eye-opening truths.
He brings back some perspective to a media-cluttered world. To be honest, after listening to this, it makes 90% of rappers out there just seem stupid and irrelevant.

FUTURE HIT--- 50 Cent Feat. Jeremih - Girls Go Wild
50 released this track strangely via MySpace, after a number of tweets illustrating the friction between him and his label. He even went to the extent of suggesting his impending demise. We hope this isn't the case but for now get your ears around what is destined to be a chart topper, unless Jimmy Iovine gets involved of course...
