Yung Quincy - My Music

Yung Quincy Releases Debut Mixtape – ‘My Music’

The London-born turntable titan has turned the tables and got behind the microphone to record his debut mixtape entitled ‘My Music’. Quincy has been writing music from the age of 9, he joined the Nu Rap Krew (which included rap star Giggs) at just 10 years old, through his adult life he has stormed through the club scene and has earned the respect of artists worldwide. He’s brought a few of them together to collaborate on this project.

Quincy, who has been endorsed by airwaves heavyweight Tim Westwood, recruits features from the likes of Joe Grind, Giggs, DVS, Ashley Walters, JME, Vybz Kartel on this gift of a CD.

“Yeah I teamed up with a lot of grime and hip hop artists who are going hard right now, there’s tunes with Ratlin on there, Joe Grind, Giggs, DVS, Vybz Kartel so yeah I’ve got loads of projects on right now”

“A lot of the youngers in the UK are not really paying respect to the dancehall music we have, they might listen to Mavado and those guys but people like Gappy Ranks and Stylo G etc are not getting the love they deserve, so I thought let me start making dance hall music with a UK vibe.”

The names are proof of Yung Quincy’s certified status and confirm his credentials, but enough of the background check; is it any good?

Kano Teams Up With Mercedes Benz

UK grime/ hip hop legend Kano has become the front of the new campaign by Mercedes Benz. I don't think I've been this proud of a UK rapper for a while.

Kano has always been one of those artists who I wished would make it to the big money, because in my eyes he is very underrated and a lot of his work went unappreciated. People often tag the 'he was ahead of his time' label to him (I think Wiley often says this) but it's not just that, he is and was a true lyricist who deserved the treasures.

BUT Kane being the intelligent bloke he is has realised there's money to be made elsewhere, I point to exhibit A - Top Boy. Top Boy was a huge success and almost put Kano on the filming map, now there's this Mercedes ad campaign. This is huge. What made me smile even more was that an American magazine 'Complex' recognised this and it is via them that I learnt the news!

These Kids Flow Better Than Most Rappers...

They may be talking about hot cheetos and takis but these boys flow more accurately and factually than most rappers out there! lol all of a sudden I feel hungry...

Go Down South Freestyle - Yung Quincy

Brand new vid from the music maestro DJ Quincy AKA Yung Quincy, I also have a small cameo role in this LOL

Watch out for the mixtape coming soon, I'll be reviewing that for RWDmag.com, watch my Twitter and you'll be the first to find out, let's go!

Drake Came Correct On 'Enough Said' Feat. Aaliyah

There was a little bit of discussion prior to this song being released about whether it was right for Drake to jump on an Aaliyah joint. Timbaland threw his opinion in saying that it would have to be voiced by himself plus a few others, anything else would not be right.

I thought i'd wait till the actual joint came out to conclude, having listened to it I do think Drake came correct. What I mean is that he did not dominate the track, he was sensible and he paid respect to the late singer giving her plenty of room in fact a huge proportion of the song to her vocals. Drake came in with his verse, there was a lack of cheese and he definitely played this well, well done Drake - you were tredding on thin ice with this record but I think you made it without slipping!

Wiley Reaches The Mountain Top with 'Heatwave'

Woke up this morning and opened up my Twitter timeline to find tweets about Wiley reaching number 1 - I'm happy.

It was perhaps inevitable, the great job that Rymez did on production and the complimenting vocals of Ms. D culminate in this summer CLASSIC which will be remembered and enjoyed for decades. This is timeless music.

What Wiley brings to this tune is a balance. His carefree lyrical content and his unnerving ability to just have fun on a track is evident and means the listener can enjoy him bouncing off the beat before giving way to the very catchy chorus.
Then I heard the news that it had in fact sold 114K copies in the first week!?!?!

 " 'UNDRED AND FOUR'EEN FAASUND COPIES?!?! "

Couldn't quite believe it, I was overcome with pride - I'm very happy.

The compliments have been flooding in on Twitter from all areas of the music universe ( will we see one from Dizzee? :P) and rightfully so, the Grime godfather has had the work ethic of a mexican mule in a metal manufacturing mine. The freestyles, the videos, the tweets, the gigs, the feuds, the lord of the mics, the dodgy tracksuits, the not turning up, the eskimo dances, the - EVERYTHING... and now it all comes to this -

Well done Richard.
